I'm super excited to share with you that I'm making some changes to My Chic n Scratch blog.
Later this spring you can expect to see a brand new website.
So …. I thought it would be fun to have you help me 🙂
My 1st question is ….
What categories do you look for the most?
If you look on my right side bar …you'll see a bunch …..and I need to narrow it down to 10 or 12.
Right now I'm leaning towards these ….
- 3D
- Cards
- Punch Art
- Holidays/Occasions
- Stampin' Up!
- Sales/Specials
- Organization
- Catalogs
- Tutorials
- Scrapbooking
- Clubs/Classes/Kits
- Events
- Personal
That's 13 … one more than I want …. any suggestions? What am I missing? or what can I toss?
Next we have subcategories …
Holidays/Occasions … the sub categories would be
- Birthday
- Christmas
- Easter
- Fathers Day
- Mothers Day
- Halloween
- July 4th
- Thanksgiving
- May Day
- St Patrick's Day
- Anniversary
- Baptism
- Sympathy
- Get Well
I have a lot of work to do on subcategories!!
If you'd like to offer some suggestions I'd love to hear them.
Please leave a comment on this post and later this Spring when I launch the new site I'll be sure to reward at least one person with some awesome Blog Candy! (If I have an overwhelming response I'll reward more.)
I hope you're as excited as I am!!!
Stay tuned for more questions on my new website 🙂
I Love all your work… But the Cards & 3d projects I enjoy most with the tutorials of course! What about a catagory on products that you love and dont love? you must try ect? More Bloopers please!! 🙂
I love the 3D & cards the best!! Also I would be lost without the tutorials!
What about separating Birthdays into girl, boy, teen, adults, etc.
Or having milestone birthdays. Baby fists, sweet 16 or 15, 21, 25, 30, 40, 50, etc.
Don’t forget about weddings and valentines day!
Since you currently have tutorials on the top of your website. I personally think you don’t need it in your categories.
You have the catalogs on the left side, do you also need a category for catalog? Unless you put other company catalogs under that section.
I tend to lean towards your videos when I visit your site.
Can’t wait to see how your site gets changed up!! 🙂
Hi Angie! I’m excited to see what you decide. When I’m looking for some inspiration for a particular card, I love it when I can quickly find the particular holiday or event that I’m looking for so I’m glad you will be having subcatagories. I love the tutorials too!
Subcategory suggestion: thank you’s
Can’t wait to see it!
For subcategory ~ New Baby. Your blog is terrific and I sure do enjoy all your talents !! Your new blog will be amazing, I’m sure !!
Thanks for sharing YOU !
Can you maybe combine Clubs/Classes/Kits
and Events to get down to 12?
You’re one of my go-to sources for 3D stuff, so I definitely would be looking for that.
Hi Angie,
I am new to all this and so very excited. I love all your projects and check your blog everyday. I think you should provide kits clubs so that we can start growing our collections up. However, my first love is card, any kind of cards and holiday items. Thanks.
I would love to see Big Shot Projects as a category Angie – but whatever you go with I am sure it will be fabby X
Hi Angie –
I love everything and usually read your blog daily. Don’t forget Valentine’s Day in your Holiday Sub-Categories 🙂
Angie, I love the cards and tutorials,
of course. Please keep in mind the pdf’s or just photos are very nice rather than videos for those of us whohave dial up. Its
almost impossible to see the videos. For
example, it took 14 hours last week for
me to download a 4 min. SU video. I enjoy looking at your blog so much and
am excited to see what you change.
Hi Angie,
My 6 year old son loves to watch your videos which, to my surprise, have inspired him to make his own videos. Of course, he is demonstrating his own original ideas and techniques. We love all the 3-D items and I especially love the tutorials. Thank you and good luck with the new website!
Love your Tutorials!!!! You so inspire me!!!
Hi Angie,
Hope all is well on your end. I love all things Angie so however you design the new blog will be fine with me. My fav is your videos. I love anything 3-D. And Big Shot Too! Thanks so much for all you do!
Lysa
Hi! How about Big Shot/punch art; Stampin’ Up!/Catalogs/Sales/Specials; maybe group Events/Clubs/Classes/Kits;
possibly sub-sub-categories for female/male/kids under birthday; all with a cross reference by stamp set used. Love your blog now and know it will be even better!
I think I go to the Archives the most but love having all the categories to choose from too. I like the idea of cross referencing stamp sets because sometimes I look at a set and am totally blank.
I love your tutorials, cards and 3-D projects! I actually rarely look at the side bars, as I check your blog daily. The only time I go to side bars, is if I saw something a while back and want to review it again at a later date. Then I go to either 3-D, tutorials, or Cards for the most part! Good luck-look forward to seeing the new look (although, I like the current look too).
Angie- love the videos- subcategory of thank you’s please! I love that you are always looking for improvements!
For subcategories .. masculine cards
Angie,
You know I am a fan of all your work. I love the 3D projects and cards. I love to give those away. I also love when you demo new products from SU and awesome techniques.
Thanks for all the inspiration.
I love the tutorials. I think another topic suggestion would be quick and easy or variations where you take one card and show it with three or four different stamp sets
I always enjoy checking out your blog. I really enjoy your tutorials. I like the idea of offering pdf’s along with the videos for those with slow connections. Also, some other subcategories would be masculine, inspiration, graduation, seasons, & wedding.
You have done very well with your blog. I look forward to your new look.
I love reading your blog. I like the par down list. I love your Big Shot projects! Excited to see more club projects!! Events could go under Club!
Angie, First I love to see how you make changes and updating your site. I would say that Tutorials is already on top bar as categories. And love your 3D items on any shape, size or color. Good luck with your new look,
Karina
scrapnrelax
I am so excited to see your new changes! I love your blog…gives so many ideas. Some subcategories I would include are Valentine’s Day (I didn’t see that one up on the list but maybe I overlooked it haha…), maybe Wedding or baby shower cards or favors, and Thank You/Gratitude cards. Thanks for all the inspiration!! 🙂
maybe you can combine some together? Like scrapbooking and punch art or stampin up and sales/specials.
And you’re forgetting valentine’s day! 😀

I love all the stuff on your website but holidays are my favorite. I’m not sure which one you should let go because I enjoy looking through all of them. Change is good and look forward to the new website.
I love it the way it is, so much information that other blogs just don’t have, I also love the colors you use, please don’t change it too much!
Angie I love your tutorials but most of all the pdfs so I can save them after I make an item I can go back to it would that be under the category of tutorials? I also would love to see Baby and Wedding and what about the good old Anniversary and Sympathy… oops and of course GRADUATION!!!
Angie,
I love your blog and it’s one of three that I check daily. Love your tutorials, I think that’s what I think of when I think of your blog. It’s my go to if I want to make something. I think 3D and holiday are my most favorite catagories. I’m sure however you update the blog it will be fabulous!
I love reading your blog and have loved the set of the month. I like the gift ideas for friends and neighbors. I am also a teacher and would like ideas to use in my classroom.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your ideas. Personally, I hate change, but I know it is necessary. I like being able to search a website for a stampset, DSP, category or color. I hope you keep that option!
Good Luck!
Hello! Love all of your stuff, but one category I use more than other is “Thank You” cards! Looking forward to seeing your new changes! TSF!
Angie, in your sib categories, I would eliminate May Day and add Valentine’s Day. Love your tutorials and cards. I agree with those who said to include masculine cards for a sub category and categorize birthdays and include milestone birthdays.
Angie, I think FABRIC would be a good category because of the flowers, quilts, purses, etc. we can now make with SU fabric.
I would place the catalogs under SU and that removes 1 category for you.
Combine Clubs/Classes/Kits and Events-down another category.
Regarding the subcategories, I would go with the KISS strategy-keep it simple!
Group sympathy and get well together, combine “minor” holidays, etc.
I love your blog and I can’t wait to see the new site!
Maybe you could combine Stampin’ Up! and catalog categories. Thanks for sharing all your wonderful ideas.
Angie, Looking forward to the new blog but like many others I visit your site everyday, watch your tutorials, and see whats new!!!! Maybe sales, catalogs and specials as one. Maybe put Mothers an Fathers day together as one in sub catagories.Maybe events, holidays an occasions together. How ever you do it I am sure we will all love it!!!!
Looks great so far but I would add a subcategory of Masculine. You have done some very nice ones and I would love to be able to find them quickly as I have several males to make things for in my circle of family and friends.
Good luck!
Valentines and New Year’s should be added to the mix I think.
Another Vote for Masculine categories because it could be directed around any occasion-just need to make it manly 🙂
Hi Angie,
Can’t wait to see your new site. The only catagory that I am not interested is scrapbooking. Other than that I love them all. Keep up the great work!!!
Sub categories: you could combine mother’s day and fathers day to parents day and you could also put may day and easter together that would eliminate two..
Love the videos and tutorials and follow your blog with my morning tea!
Not sure if it would work for everyone, but instead of listing the holiday subcategories, could you you have Winter holidays or occasions, Spring occasions, etc? Rather than listing each one?
Anyway, I just love your blog, so as long as you are posting, it’s all good!
Hi Angie,
First of all I like your blog and this comment is not to be negative or mean . Only a suggestion. How about using more products from the large catalog rather than focusing on new items from the mini so much? It seems like a lot of things are made from the mini’s and by the time the next mini comes along then something from that is focused on so we don’t get to see many stampset’s used from the large catalog. I remember you wanted to get the Dinorar and Need for Speed set’s but I do not recall you having made a card with these. I’m sorry if I missed them if you have posted them. (I’m bad).I like the 3-d projects most with videos and the use of punches. Maybe come up with some projects that you can use more than one Big Shot Die for the project. Anyway your site is great and I am looking forward to your new ideas.
I love all the cards and tutorials……you do. I like all the little boxes and treats you make for any of the holidays…..and like hearing about you and family (Bella)….your great…….hugs
Love, Love, Love your Blog. Finding your Blog got me back into stamping so I say thank you so much for that.
Some categories are Male cards for Birthdays and all of the Holidays.
Also I really need cards for KIDS, all holidays and birthdays. I try and send cards to all of the grandchildren for all holidays, Valentine’s Day, St. Patty’s Day, Easter, back to school, Holloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Thanks so much.
Cynthia
Angie, you have a super blog, but I’m excited to see changes too!! What about a “masculine” sub-category? Seems like we are always short on that type of thing? There are some awesome ideas commented on here already. I love your videos and tutorials!! TFS
You are on the right track. I’ve learned so much from you. Keep up the great work!
Angie,
First of all I got my stamp set of the month in the mail and I love it! It’s like stamping Christmas 🙂 As for the website you could do a “Shower” subcategory and it would have wedding and baby in it. I think having something for the new stampers would be good too. When you first start you want to buy everything, but I don’t know anyone who can do that right off the bat. Teach them how to start off their Stampin’ Up collection and what they can do in the beginning. Thank you so much for everything you do and all the help you give us “lost” stampers. Breanne
Hi, Angie
I’m thinking, can you put together SU! and sales/specials? maybe SU! and catalogs, but i do like the fact of just clicking to the catalog and viewing it… I know your changes are going to be wonderful! you are always an inspiration!
Love all that you do. Will you be doing shares on the Pool Party and Daffodil seam binding? Cannot see anything to leave off and I think all of the sub-catagories have been covered. Have a great weekend. By the way, congrats to Brooke.
Love the cards and videos!!
Angie,
3d creations are my favorite.. but for me when I go to someones blog.. let’s say you have your top 13 categories..as is..
I would like to be able to find things quick, and know what you have etc..
example.. I just bought the box #2 I would like to be able to come to your site, click on 3d items, and then scroll down to box #2 and find everything you have created using this die…
or let’s say I am debating on buying this die, I can see the fun things made with it.. and if I can find 3 or more things in that category that i like.. I will usually buy it.. hope this helps.. can’t wait to see the new site..hugs
I love everything you make, ESP 3D
candy packets and all your videos.
I check you sites and blogs everyday.
Please keep your tuts too. Thanks Cheryl
I was going to say Valentines but looks like it has been mentioned. Wedding could go with Anniversary. I like the idea of Baby and Thank you also. There is also New Year’s. What about Teacher gifts? Not sure we are helping you narrow it down or make it bigger. ; )
Oh how fun…I can’t wait to see your blog changes. I love, love your video projects!!! I’m a visual person so its easier for me to watch you than to make sense of written instructions. If you have to lose a category, could you combine catalogs with sales/specials? Thanks or all of the inspiration you provide!
Angie I don’t know what would be best to keep or not. I LOVE your site. I visit it daily. It has been so easy to get around in it.
I personal love the 3-D please don’t get rid of that. As far as the videos I subscribe to your YouTube channel so I watch the videos there. I know what any changes you make it will still be great and full of great ideals.
By the way I am going to a class at Penny’s tomorrow. I know I will have fun. Thanks for the info. You are the best.
Ange l absolutely love your site.
I follow your updates all the time and LOVE making the different projects be it cards to 3d.
So know you have a follower in little old New Zealand.
Wishing you the best of luck with your launch of the new site.
How about Seasons, and then the holidays that fall within the Season; for example Spring would have Easter and Mother’s Day, maybe some other fun celebrations such as Cinco de Mayo.
I particularly LOVE all your treat holders. I think that’s a category all its own!
Whatever you decide, I know it will be as awesome as all your ideas are.
I love all your work. I think it would be hard to cut it down… I cant wait to see all the changes that are in store. Maybe you could have a separate category for birthday.
ok, I’ll weigh in . . .The cat of “Stampin Up” seems to be redundant since that is the ony brand you use. If it’s for ordering through you, then it needs to be more promenient — having it’s own significant button. Also, I’d like to see you de-clutter the overall page. Ideas from my marketing background.
Angie,
I would add Valentine’s Day in your holidays. And if you really have to get rid of one, I would choose Events.
CARDS, CARDS, CARDS. I’m all about unique cards! I do enjoy ones using punch-art and/or die-cuts! All occassion, events, holidasy. Also cutsy things like favors, treats, place cards, menus, treat picks. THANK you for all your great ideas, and for sharing your talent and products!
I love your tutorials and all that you do with the Big Shot. Thanks for all of your inspiration.
How about Baby cards, Questions and
answers, Quick cards and Punch Art !
Oh, and Men Get Well cards. Looks like you have your work cut out for you, Angie.
For categories, could “events” go with “classes & clubs?” Then you’d be at 12?
I’m sure it’s a lot of hard decisions…good luck!
I love the cards and the 3-D projects the best but I also the the holiday ideas. And I do enjoy the personal because that way we all feel like we know you! So whatever you decide I am good with. Thanks for being you!
Can’t wait to see what you will come up with! I love all of your catagories and frequent your blog for inspiration alot! 🙂 Tks! I love your tutorials too! My main hangup seems to be masculine cards AND the inside of cards. I can often come up with a design for the outside but get stumped on the inside!
I love your tutorials and especially the packaging for favors and small gifts. Clever use of punches make great dimension! Love how you can spur on creativity in me!!!
Angie, sometimes it’s just toooo much! First-the banner/header has to say someting about who you are as an artist. Then-all the white-too -much-too sterile. You need to utilize more color-sophisticated palettes that speak to who you are as an artist. I do not want to look for things through the endless titles and size 5 font. If I do not find what I need with the first few strokes, there is a good chance I have moved on. I do not have time to go through all the information on a website. Most of us a visual wannabe artists-I am one of them. We need to see your work-display your work, not all those titles. You are 1st class artist-let me see it. Keep it simple-elegant-sophisticated- and YOU! Look forward to seeing the transformation. Good luck. Blessings.
OMG! I thought I lost you. I now found you again and I am so happy. I am not a demonstrator but I have several of them that I check their blogs daily! That is how I get my inspirations. I have missed you since you moved. Please stop moving..:) I love all your posts. I prefer written directions so I can take them to my room. My favorite cards are birthdays and christmas. Thanks for posting!
PS Needless to say your tutorials are great. Gotta keep those and when it comes to what I look for first, I must say your tutorials.
I think my first comment got lost, thus the PS before comment is actually supposed to follow this.
You need to keep your classes and kit. You’re known for your 3-D projects. And your cards are great.
I think you could leave out the category of SU. You say you’re a SU demonstrator, and any specials they have you tell about anyway.
Hi – I think it’s great that you are always attentive to keeping your blogs fresh and don’t have a huge fear of change! A subcategory I’d like to see would be cards for men & boys. I find it harder to work with colors and themes that are traditionally male; they’re just not as “pretty” and fun to work with and guys generally don’t like ribbons or lace 🙂
Mens cards, I always put off making them, can not get inspired. Tutorials and more bloopers, we love them!
It’s always hard to pare down -I’m thinking the categories of Events, Catalogue, and Stampin’Up could be combined with something else-will you still have an icon for catalogues? Maybe don’t need a category? Could Events go along with Specials? What would you include in your Stampin’ Up category? Currently you’ve been mentioning all specials, etc as they come up – or is that part of the change? Good luck with your ambitious plans! It will be great, I’m sure. By the way , I love instructions, videos- anything to help learn a technique or understand how you put things together!
I love your tutorials! And something about your southern drawl makes me feel so connected to you (even though we’ve never met!). Are you combining Everyday Angie here (Personal) as well? If yes, then Bella needs to be a category! I see a lot of folks suggested Valentines and weddings, but maybe it should be more generalized like “Love” to include anniversaries, too. Sometimes I’m looking for quick projects, be it a card or 3D. I’m so excited to see what your Chic’ n Scratch will look like!
Looks like your doing a “fine” job but don’t forget Valentine’s Day and I would also add Graduation. If you do anything for “teachers” I would suggest making a place for them also or “school”?
Have fun!
Can’t wait to see your new sight. What do I look for the most well card idea. Always seem to have a hard time with sympathy cards. Love to see new tutorials also. Looking forward to see the new you!
I would suggest you put Events with Sales/Specials or with Club/Classes/Kits in one category to cut it down by 1 and adding ALL OCCASION/NO GREETING to your themes.
Also I agree you need a VALENTINES/LOVE/ANNIVERSARY theme on your list.
I can’t wait!
HI Angie,
Are you still going to keep the old archives available? I like to go back to them for suggestions such as the punch art etc.(From when you first started)
Thanks,
Lesa M
Hello,
How about making sub categories for your 3-D items too. That way you will not need to have the Holiday/ Occasions.
Have a nice day.
you could incorporate 3D/bigshot/punch art? you have inspired lots of people with your clear videos. thanks so much for sharing.
Don’t know if this was an oversight, but I don’t see Big Shot down – unless that goes under 3D etc. Also Valentine’s Day and Weddings (unless that could fall under Anniversary – just change text). All your stuff is great – love the quilting!!!!! Thanks,
Karen
I LOVE 3-D items so thats what I check for first !
Susan B.
Hmmm.. I don’t see my comment from yesterday ?
I don’t think I said anything bad. Just my suggestions.
Morning-
The reason I come here the most is –
CARDS #1
3D – (love all of these – don’t have any of the dies, but try to replicate)
Tutorials / Techniques/ Tips / Tricks
Storage / Organization
Personal — always the personal because without that – we wouldn’t have any of it , right ? and puppy !
How about doing a “Monthly” holiday type of listing as in .. January, put all holidays that fall into Jan. into that category..February -same way-
That would work for all normal holidays other than Easter (that date can fluctuate) . So if I’m looking for a Thanksgiving idea , I would look under November.
Then you could do – Graduation, Baptism, Sympathy, Baby etc.
-those are the only ideas I can remember at the moment ! LOL
You inspire me. I visit your site as often as I can, more than once a week. I like your ideas for your categories and subcategories. Are you going to sew/quilt? Please add graduation to your subcategories list. I’m excited to see what the new website will look like.
