Surgery update

Hey there,

Here's the news I got today …. the pathology shows the mass has characteristics of cancer ….. but that doesn't mean it is cancer.   They're going to remove the mass/left side of Thyroid on August. 22nd.  They'll run all sorts of test on it and determine if it's cancer …if it's cancer I'll have a 2nd surgery to remove the rest of my Thyroid.

One other little glitch …I've never had a heart murmur before ….but today they detected one …. so I have to see a cardiologists next week to get cleared for surgery.  I guess some people are born with one ….and others develop is when something else is going on.  Hopefully it's because of my thyroid and not an issue itself!!

Thanks again for all your thoughts & prayers!

I have been following your blog for some time, and I just love your work! I also have seen that the past year has been a difficult one for you and your family. Remember that God has you in the palm of His hand and nothing happens outside of Him. Many prayers are being offered by your friends and none of them are unheard.

  8. My thyroid shriveled up and disappeared back in my 20’s and one tiny pill a day keeps me going just fine. Hope it turns out that easy for you. Lots of positive thoughts going your way. Take care.

  9. Angie- I have been a long time follower of you blog and feel as if you are a neighbor of mine! I just wanted to let you know that I was diagnosed with papiliary thyroid cancer almost 8 years ago. Thyroid cancer is very curable. I had both sides of my thyroid removed at the same time. Pathology checked before the surgery was completed and my whole thyroid was removed. I later had treatment of the radiation pill (which was a bigger pain) than the surgery. If you have any questions, please e-mail me. I guess I just wanted you to know that the word is scarier than the actual ordeal. You will be just fine.

  22. Hi,
Read your post about thyroid problems. I had both lobes of the gland removed many years ago because of cancer…the disease is very treatable. Best wishes. If you would care to reply feel free to do so.

  23. Hi Angie! I also wanted to let you know that I also had a tumor on my thyroid over 30 years ago. They removed the tumor and half of my thyroid. Thank the lord it was benign. And I’ve never had to be on any medication. But it’s always scary. My prayers are with you.

  24. Angie, one of my BFF’s has just gone through this exact process. Her’s was cancer. Tyey removed it. She did the radioactive treatment about a month after her surgery and is doing GREAT now. Praying it is non cancerous. She found a support group on Facebook. Praying for you and for your peace of mind.

  28. Hi Angie
I just wanted to drop you a line and say, I had a cancerous lump connected to my Thyroid and I had it removed when my son was 2. He’s 21 this year, the only problem I have is trying to remember to take my thyroxine. Take care but I’m sure you’ll be just fine.

  29. Angie, I’m a rather new demo that visits your site and wanted to let you know that you will also be on my prayer list. I had non-Hodgkins lymphoma in my thyroid and went through treatment 12 years ago. I will be praying first that it is not cancer and that you will be cleared for your surgery. Let us know exactly how to pray as you proceed.

    Blessings,
    Diane

  32. My mom went through Thyroid Cancer, She was very scared but in the end it ended up being fine, She had her thyroid and some lymph nodes removed (Luckily its slow spreading because she first felt the lump when she was pregnant with my little sister who was 22 at the time she was diagnosed and the Dr. thought nothing of it.) She had one treatment of Radiation and has 4 yearly checkups that have given her a clean bill of health. Regardless its a scary thing, Your in my prayers!

  33. Hi Angie,
I’m so sorry to hear your news! But as so many have said thyroid cancer is very curable! Also, I’m surprised that no one mentioned this, but the heart murmur could possibly be because of the tumor causing issues with your thyroid – you see excessive amounts of thyroid hormone in your blood can cause a heart murmur as well as a racing heart beat. I know first hand, my mom had several murmur “attacks” recently. You see her doctor changed her thyroid medication after 20 years. I took her to the emergency room and after seeing a cardiologist and several other doctors they came to the conclusion that her medication should not have been changed. She went back on her old medication and everything went back to normal with a couple of days. Good luck! You’ll be in my thoughts/prayers.

  34. Angie. I am an 18 year survivor of thyroid cancer! I had paplicary and folicular cells on both sides. Will pray that you will have the same success. Would also be happy to share my experiences along the way. Best wishes. It’s great to be a cancer survivor!! I will agree with kristine, the radiation pill is the proverbial ‘big pain’. No side effects just the precautions cause it is — radiation after all.

  35. Hi Angie,
I will be praying for your surgery and successful outcome and for a negative result on the pathology. I just came through this same exact thing. The surgeries were easy, I never took any pain meds other than Tylenol. The recovery was quick too. In my case, the pathology report showed cancer. The treatment for my cancer was a breeze and I am feeling great. Most of the time however, these masses are benign. Prayers coming your way!
