Just a quick note

Good morning,

It’s been a few days since I posted on my blog so I wanted to check in and say hi.

I don’t have a crafty project for you today because we went to the lake for Memorial Day. And can you believe I dropped my phone in the lake? Yes, I freaked out and cried and learned multiple lessons.  I’m going to share them with  you so that hopefully I can save someone from what I’m going through.  This is going to be wordy …but I know for sure it will help someone.

Before I share the story … please make note that if you texted me or called me …. I did not receive it and please text me or call me again.

Let’s start with backup.

I typically back up my iPhone before every trip …but because I thought we had turned on iCloud backup I had not backed it up to my computer since February.   That means I lost all my photos, videos and notes from Mid Feb thru last Friday. (And, all my On Stage photos are gone as well).  I will make sure iCloud back up is turned on today!!

Google Photos

In April I was helping Dave gets his data off a company phone to his personal phone and we used Google Photos to save all his pics.  So, I did the same.  I thought to myself, now I have all my pictures in two locations.  Except, it only downloaded up to September of 2018.  And the reason is … I did not keep the app open.  I thought it ran in the background but I guess I was wrong.  Does that means to keep it syncing I need to open the app?  Maybe someone will have the answer to that one.

Flotation Device

Even though the iPhone is waterproof … it does not float. And, it’s only waterproof for a short distance … meaning it will not survive a 12 foot drop in the lake.    I’m ordering a floating iPhone case today.

What happened?

How this happened is still mind boggling … we had been on the lake all day and my phone stayed in my  bag.  When we arrived back on the dock I sat my phone on my chair because I was going to take some pictures (or check my texts…. or do a Snap Chat).  I’m not sure why I shifted in my chair but I did and my phone slid right off and never hit the deck … it fell right through a crack in the deck.  Dave happened to be looking a the very moment it happened and said did that just happen?  I was in total shock. How could it fit through a 1/2 slit without hitting the wood? He did his best to try to get it but the dock sets on a float and there’s all kinds of wires and such.  Had I been sitting two foot forward my phone would have landed on the dock float.  grrrrrr

My day will be spent getting my new phone set up and getting caught up on email.  I typically use my iPhone as a hotspot to use my iPad and since I didn’t have a hotspot I had zero service all weekend (when it rains it pours)!

I’m going to get to work now … but if you need anything please don’t hesitate to contact me

Thanks & have a great day!

  3. Well, that’s one way to force yourself to “try” to enjoy and relax, without any media devices. But really, I’m so sorry. All that hard work down the drain (lake)!

  5. So sorry for your horrible situation with your phone. We do not realize how much we depend of them until something like this happens. I am horrible at deleting photos and my phone is almost full, so I am going to have to back up mine to a second device so I do not lose all of mine. Hope this week gets better. Sending good thoughts to you.

  6. So sorry Angie. We rely so much on our phones and when something like that happens, we feel so lost. Hope everything goes well with everything. Maybe there is a way to recover things.

  7. I cannot believe the Stampin Up trimmer has been discontinued. On the bottom of mine it says “Pattern Pending” In the grand scheme of things I just bought my trimmer and now I can’t get blades for it either (on Ebay bidding for a set at $25.00) this does not make me feel good. I have 4 trimmers and all are in a drawer except my Stampin Up Trimmer. There are so many things I love about it, the width, the smoothness of the deck, the easy to see dimensions and the glide of the blade. I am also purchasing and oil stone. All metal blades can be sharpened.
