Scratch & Win aka Blog Candy

  Blog-Candy-Aug-2010

It's been a while since I offered some blog candy and since I need a favor I decided to offer up some goodies 🙂

My blog candy includes:  Punched Posies stamp set, Ikea jar with ribbon, a Chic Stand, Assortment of Satin Ribbon, Monogram post it notes (leftover from Convention), the box I made yesterday on UStream, the card I've made twice on UStream 🙂  ….you know testing the set up….. and a cute little stamp that says from our house to yours.

If you were able to tune in during my Live Stream…..I have a dilemma and I need your help.  If I want better quality filming…..it flickers because the camera is always adjusting itself.  If I go with lower quality …it speaks for itself.  If you compare the Owl Halloween Box I made on Saturday to the Wicked Fun Square Box I made yesterday ….which do I use?  I have one more thing I can change but I'm not sure we'll ever get to the level of perfection (streaming live is complicated!!).  Click here to go to my UStream channel.

Let me know what you think…especially if you've watched them 🙂

I'll draw the winner tomorrow afternoon after my Live Stream (I want to give them a chance to win as well).

Here's some Q & A's:

  • Q:  Are you going to stop doing You Tube videos?
  • A:  No way!  Just adding something new….I love trying new things!!
  • Q:  Why are you streaming instead of You Tube?
  • A:  Streaming Live allows us to talk with each other as I'm making the project.  There's no editing going on….it's all live.  To be honest …it's been a total blast.  Yesterday the recording ended in 11 minutes but we talked for at least an hour & 1/2.
  • Q:  Why can't I enlarge the screen?
  • A:  I have no clue…I've worked on it too…if you enlarge it the screen becomes fuzzy.
  • Q: Why can't I post a comment?
  • A:  UStream is a complicated site…it has some issues but I've looked at others and it seems to be the best for now.  They are making improvements, so that's good.  If you can't comment….sign out….and sign back in…try that a few times.  You may also want to clear your cookies and restart your computer. If you watch a lot of videos…they are all sitting in your temporary internet files and you need to delete them.
  • Q:  Are you going to post a schedule?
  • A:  For now I plan to stream at noon on Saturdays…I may throw a chat in on Friday evenings but the rest will be short notice.  I fly by the seat of my pants most of the time and if I try to create a schedule I will more than likely disappoint you ….does that make sense?  Here's an example…in the month of June (or maybe it was May) I was in a funk and totally lacked creativity…so if I had to produce something when I'm in a funk….it's take the fun out of it.

I hope that answers most of your questions…if not let me know.  If I receive any new ones I'll update this post with a red font so it's easy to see.

Updated August 22nd

Congrats Debbie West….you won the blog candy!!

The next three people have won a Free Chic Stand:

  • I love, love, love your Ustream Live. It is so much fun to hear you in an unrehearsed (real) way. To see that you make mistakes too, makes me feel soooo much better.

  • I did not notice any problem with the 2,4,6,8 box, with the owl stamp. I did notice some hesitation with the belly band box. I love watching your videos and UStream — and all your 3D projects. I don't often get to watch the live broadcasts, but watching the replays allows me to stop to take a note and then go again. Thanks for your time!

  • I watched both and thought the owl box was the best. However I didn't notice any flickering, I must have been so intent on watching and listening! LOL!! Angie, you are such an inspiration to so many. As always, thank you so much!!!!

Have a great Friday and I'll see you tomorrow!

Order Stampin' Up!
p.s. if you plan on attending the live stream tomorrow and want to participate in making the project….here's the supply list:  12 x 12 sheet of Halloween Designer Paper, matching ribbon, ink & card stock, scissors, trimmer with scoring blade, bone folder & your favorite halloween stamp set…..& let's not forget adhesive 🙂   See ya!

I think the flickering isn’t bad enough to make me stop watching!! You’re a huge source of info and inspiration and I greatly appreciate all you do for us! =)

    Thanks and keep ’em coming!

  2. First of all I LOVE the idea of you telling us what we need to make it along with you! Brillant!

The higher quality is probably the best way to go. I’d think it would begin to get better as technology increases.

    Good Luck!

Anyway, when i do watch them I don’t notice the flickering. I also love the fact that you are posting what we need to work with you. That adds a whole new dimension to it.

  11. I was watching live yesterday (I was a little late, so I only saw the chat part) and didn’t notice any flickering while I was watching. I played the project part and noticed the flickering but don’t know if I did because you mentioned it. I’m not being much help, am I?

The ustream for the owl is good but darker than yesterday’s and maybe a little fuzzy.

Like somebody mentioned before, regardless of what camera you use I won’t stop watching. Thank you for sharing your projects with us!

  12. I watched live on Saturday but watched the recorded Wicked Fun. I personally like the Wicked Fun. I didn’t notice the flickering but I was paying attention to your demo. I do like watching live though so I will try to remember to tune in this Saturday and “play” along.

  13. Angie – I just watched the recorded versions – I have to work out the UK times for central US so I can watch you live.

Firstly, go for the higher quality – the flickering is fine.

Secondly, I LOVE the way you create as you go along. It makes me feel as though I am right there with you in your studio. Great projects as always – and I SOOOO hope that Halloween set appears as if by magic in the UK catty on Oct 1st!

    Great inspiraton as always. XXX

  14. I just watched both, and the flickering did bother me a little, but not enough to stop watching. I have a few you tube channels that I can’t watch due to the camera’s auto focus flickering so much that it makes me start to feel sick (motion sickness?). Yours doesn’t seem to flicker as much as others. Hoping I can watch the one on Saturday live!

  22. I watched both live and I must say I liked the Owl Box video quality better. When I watched the box – it flickered, which I could deal with but it also stopped several times like it was buffering the video while it was live. I could hear audio but the picture froze and I got a little spinning timer thingy. I will still tune it no matter what choice you make – it has been so great to watch and participate. 44. Thanks for the CUTE card demo. I think the higher speed and flickering is not necessary. No everyone has high speed computers or lines, so I would choose the best one that works for the majority – without flickering if possible. Just my opinion. I am just so happy that you are doing the videos. I really liked when you had them on your webpage because there weren’t any commercials and ads like there are on UTube, but I will take them any way you do them, sweetie!! Keep up the good work!!

  47. Ok, I viewed both completely. First off, the quality of the video portion itself is better on the Owl, however; it is a bit to dark. Not so dark you have a hard time following, just darker than the fun square. The lighting on the fun square seems to flicker. I do believe thats what is causing your camera to readjust. Try moving the lighting fixture around so that movement from your body does not differ the light from the camera ausing the self adjust to happen. A worklight (not the really bright ones) on the front part of your table would probably help. I think you would be fine with the camera you have, I truely believe you need to play with the light. If you really watch closely, the flickering happens with the camera adjust at the same time there is a change in the lighting. Hope this helps.

  93. I think the owl box was great and better quality. I think flickering would have to get really bad for people to stop watching your great projects. Thanks for all you do, you are an inspiration.

  94. Thanks for offering such great products! I love the chance to watch the live stream and being able to go back and watch it late. Didn’t really notice the flickering. Keep up the great work and fun items!

  95. I am so thankful you offer this to all of us! Bless your heart for trying to make everything perfect! If I had to choose, I would prefer the higher quality over the lower. But again, just thankful that we even have an option. And…thanks for sending us the supply list! What fun to have a virtual stamp class!

  97. The owl box stream was the better of the two. Thanks for always coming up with great ideas and taping them to share. I am a visual learner and I love watching your videos.

  98. I thought the owl box was maybe a little darker But I did not mind that or the flicker.
    Either was just fine.
It was like 6 or 1/2 a dozen. (same thing)
    I enjoyed them both.

  99. I watched both and thought that the first one was better as it didn’t any flickering on my end. The quality looked great on both of them on my computer so I just prefer to not have the flickering because I missed words and things when it would do that. Thanks for offering these great project live streams and your other videos. It’s so great to see things being done just so nothing is confusing at all.

  101. I watched both with you and just for an opinion, the owl box was better. But I was so busy watching you and chatting that I didn’t notice any problems. I even felt you were in my craft area with me and when you needed google eyes I was trying to give you some of mine!
This is so much fun! Can’t hardly wait
    40 minutes! I am ready!

  102. As of now- the constant focusing of the lense makes me a little nauseated (possible side effect of morning sickness? lol!) But you deffinately get a much clearer picture! I’d say stick with the higher quality! Technology keeps getting better 🙂 Thanks for live streaming!!!

  103. You are such a good teacher that the flickering simply isn’t noticeable! Thank you for taking the time to share in a “live” format! Not everyone would be willing to do that and you have a natural charisma that makes it so much fun!

  105. I felt today’s was better than the other two. Since I don’t have the highest speed Internet, I continue to get some delays but not as bad as watching YouTube videos. Great idea and thanks for sharing! UStream is something new to me ~ GOOD JOB!

  108. Hey Angie…..
I think your videos are going great!! I can hear you perfectly and the flickering is not bad on my end. I am very excited for future videos…the Wicked fun square box.

  109. I love, love, love your Ustream Live. It is so much fun to hear you in an unrehearsed (real) way. To see that you make mistakes too, makes me feel soooo much better.

  110. I love both… videos and UStream, but the videos allow you to stop and get measurements and other particulars rather than you having to repeat measurements every time someone new comes in. I do love talking to you though. And I too hate the bud commercials but I just shut the sound off till you come on. Keep up the terrific work!

  111. The flickering is not bad at all, i only notice with the cutter, it might a light reflection thing. When I re-watch the video I never notice the flicker at all. Maybe it’s the others person connection.

  112. The Owl H’box stream was easier to watch, and the Wicked Fun Box was too jumpy and was distracting. Todays was the best of both to me…clear AND steady! Thanks for all the fun ideas!

  113. I had so much fun watching your live stream today! It was like a Stamping Show on TV but better 🙂

I didn’t notice a problem with the flickering.

The brightness was perfect, but as lots of people commented it was just hard to watch the coloring before you zoomed in– and when you zoomed in it was a little fuzzy.

I enjoyed it!! Will be definitely tuning in for future streams, but not next Saturday because we’ll be driving to Chicago 🙂

There was more flickering this time than when you did the first one (owl box) but I will watch no matter what!

  117. I checked out the videos today as I was unable to watch live. The flickering did not bother me as I was so intent on watching you. I think the higher quality is better and I think things will get better as technology progresses. I love the idea. I watch everything I can get of yours.
    Thanks for sharing with us.

  118. Hi Angie,
I watched the ustream after the fact and giggled all the way thru it. It is so funny listening to everyones comments. I’m glad you decided on a pear box and I would use the lace even though I haven’t seen it yet (up close and personal.

  120. Love your USTREAM broadcasts. Liked the quality of today, but sometimes there was a slight delay. It was almost like the action stopped for just a few seconds and then started again. No matter what I’ll be watching! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
